3 November: Do others see me the way I see myself?

The Enkanini February Team met for the first time! We have officially started our 2020 InSite team! Ari Snow and Hayley Johnson led the students through the module, “Do others see me the way I see myself?”.

Setting the tone, a space of fun and play allowed all to engage, share, learn and grow. Everyone left knowing each other better, felt connected and learned to see others and themselves in a different light. How might we learn to see others as people, just as important as myself?

Here are some of the ways positionality was taught:

1) Play- collectively using interactive learning to discuss identity in ourselves and people we may have generalized / made assumptions about.

2) Network learning: utilizing neuro-psychology learning methods to learn, organize and develop which ‘in-group’ and ‘out-groups’ we see in society.

3) Creativity: channeling and solidifying our new concepts about identity through self-expression and group discussions.

The final challenge: to interact/become friends with someone you have made an assumption.
