What now? What's next?

What now? What's next?

I'll start with the first question... "What now?" As you may recall, we raised funds and doubled them with a Healing Hands campaign to begin an aquaponics learning center in Enkanini. It became clear after meeting with the relevant stakeholders, there was little interest/understanding of what this could potentially bring for the community. InSite pulled out and placed the agency with the local high school. If this is something that they wanted, they had all the resources at Stellenbosch University, who are willing and able to assist them.

So, we were wondering what to do with the project funds. We allocated some to the bakery to be spent later, then the coronavirus made it's way to South Africa and within weeks, a complete lockdown of the whole country. We sent funds to support our partners in Pretoria and in Enkanini. Phillipine was able to stretch the funds sent to support 13 families and added another 12! So, currently, InSite is financially supporting 25 families for 2 months.

What Next?

  • Our Pretoria team trip has been postponed to the October holiday. We are hopeful that travel and life will make this a possibility. We're finishing up the modules online/zoom.

  • We delivered care packages to all 35 InSite students last week.

  • We are still evaluating and pivoting as we wait on pins and needles to see how each country, community deals with the pandemic.

  • We now have 4 InSite interns who are starting with us this week.

  • We are putting together other social distancing ways of service - more on that later.
